We hope you enjoyed this overview of some of the core mechanics as well as new features of Anno 117: Pax Romana!

For the first time in Anno, you step into the role of a character — a newly appointed governor, a position of power in the Roman Empire. Being a governor will allow you to experience Rome first-hand like never before, from awe-inspiring spectacles like the Naumachia in the Amphitheatre to the untamed Celtic wetlands of Albion.

“I have so many more questions and want to see more!”, we hear you shout. Well, don’t worry: Your favourite content creator might just have exactly what you’re looking for. We’re very excited to see the reactions from so many of them from around the world and strongly recommend you to have a look!

We won’t stop there, of course:

This Wednesday, May 21st, we’ll be streaming Anno 117: Pax Romana live from the studio! Join Game Director Jan, Art Director Reiko and Community Developer Oliver on Twitch at 5PM CEST/3PM UTC/11AM EDT to learn more about some of the new features – and ask questions directly to the developers.

Anno 117: Pax Romana is releasing in Winter 2025 on Ubisoft Connect, Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Wishlist now on your platform of choice!

Upcoming

And, well, of course this is very much just the start: We’ll soon go into detail on many more topics and features of the game. You can expect:

  • DevBlogs on two new features, Religion and the Discovery Tree, coming very soon
  • Developer insights into other features as well as the work of specific departments over the coming weeks and months

Another game that Ubisoft ignores us, when will the devs at BlueByte and now this Mainz understand that Portuguese is not Spanish! They promised that the next game would have at least Portuguese subtitles! Where is the respect for your players Ubisoft?

We have not yet communicated the list of supported languages for Anno 117: Pax Romana.

    Hello,
Is there any news if the physical collector’s edition (Governor Edition) will be available at retail partners (such as Amazon.de)? Or will it be only available in the Ubisoft Store? Unfortunately the Ubisoft Store doesn’t sell physical collector’s editions to some smaller countries in Europe, whereas Amazon does. A little clarification would be great, so we can plan ahead, thank you!

    •   Ubi-Thorlof June 6, 2025

Hey BonoChris, we’ll have news on preorders and specifically also the Governor Edition very soon. I can already let you know, however, that it’ll be sold via partner stores.

I am a bit worried about that the pc version will be hold back because mechanics also must work on console specially if it also must function well on a xbox S.. I also hope the change things like the warehouse, fire prevention etc reach to how it was in anno 1800 or that it wont be a circular zone but a square instead so it is easier to connect the influance/effect zones. Other solution could be that the influence zones are allowed to overlap.

Thanks for all the efforts to make a great game once again. I’m only concerned about the pricing and how much we get with just the base game. The 1800 with all its DLC’s costed a fortune. If youre going to increase the prices of everything we will probably wait for your infamous discounts, as I could afford 1800 a few years after its release on a sale day. But after all this is an amazing game and if you could deliver the whole package for the same base price as you ask for your latest assasins creed games then this would be a great value as well.

I have been playing ANNO for many years. I hope that as always there will be Polish language. Is there such an option?

    •   Ubi-Thorlof May 29, 2025

Yes, like in Anno 1800, we’ll also support Polish language in Anno 117: Pax Romana.

The absence of any upgraded road types like brick or stone stood out to me. I know this is still early footage, but having only dirt roads didn’t feel visually appealing—especially for players like me who prioritize building beautiful, immersive cities over pure efficiency. Not everyone plays Anno to grow endless populations. Many of us focus on aesthetics and storytelling through design, so I hope more beautification options—like upgraded roads and decorative variations—will be included.

Another thing I noticed was how large the olive farms were. They looked great visually, but they took up a lot of space. It made me wonder whether the island sizes will be enough to support the full production chains needed at each tier of residential development without players feeling boxed in. Maybe there’s a plan for regional specialization or more sessions to ease that pressure?

On a positive note, I thought the terrain-adaptive buildings were really impressive. When the warehouse was placed on a cliff and it adjusted its look, that was such a cool touch. Those little details make a huge difference in immersion and give the world more personality. I’m also really intrigued by the promise of localized production influence and the modular ship system teased in the dev blogs—I’d love to hear more about how those evolve as the game develops.

Thanks again for the transparency and for including the community in the journey. I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing more!

    •   Ubi-Thorlof May 29, 2025

Hey abbiebe89, there will be different road types in Anno 117: Pax Romana as well – via the Discovery Tree.
More on this feature soon 🙂

Glad to read you like some of the changes and improvements we’ve added to the game!
As a player focused more on beauty building, I’m sure you’ll also appreciate one change we revealed in the last livestream: ornaments and their groundplates are now separated. You can “paint” whichever groundplate under a tree or statue.
We’ll feature that at a later date in more detail.

  9. a abbiebe89 May 26, 2025

I really enjoyed the gameplay reveal, thank you for the early look! A few things stood out to me that I wanted to share.

I was surprised there weren’t any brick road options shown. It only has dirt roads! Not all of us play to maximize population! Some of us love creating beautiful, immersive cities. Having only the option to build dirt roads wasn’t visually appealing, especially when trying to design more refined or historic-looking areas. Beautification options like varied roads and decorative elements are a huge part of the fun and replayability.

I also noticed how much space the olive farms required. It made me wonder whether the islands will be large enough to support all the production chains needed for each residential tier without feeling cramped. I hope there’s some flexibility built in or maybe regional specialization options to balance it out.

One small detail I absolutely loved was how the warehouse visually changed when built on a cliffside. That was such a nice touch. Those little adaptive design elements add so much character and realism.

Thank you again for all the hard work. I’m really excited for what’s to come!

    • l ludo38230 May 23, 2025

    •   Ubi-Thorlof May 29, 2025

Hey ludo38230! What are your concerns regarding the Needs remaining relevant for all population tiers throughout the game?
From our perspective, this opens up far more options for you as a player to choose how to play the game and which goods to produce. Let us know and maybe we can address those 🙂

If you haven’t already, check out our DevBlog on the topic: https://www.anno-union.com/devblog-fulfil-needs-your-way/

      • l ludo38230 May 29, 2025

Bonjour!

        •   Ubi-Thorlof May 30, 2025

You don’t have to keep the early game production, though. You can keep them to get additional attribute points, but they aren’t mandatory to progress. If you have only e.g. Tier 3 and Tier 4 residences on your island, you can absolutely decide to only provide them with the buildings and the needs that are specific to their population tier. The minimum is enough – everything more than that is extra.

Islands and worlds are not smaller than in Anno 1800.

  12. E Edimasta May 23, 2025

This looks absolutely incredible, you all are doing such a great job and I cannot wait to play this! Small concern for me as a “city painter” that wants to detail and build beautiful cities: Will we get “diagonal” detailing options?

Meaning, if we decide to build diagonal roads and sections, we will have lots of small open triangle / diagonal shaped gaps… bigger or smaller. Will we get detailing options to fill these diagonal gaps? Will there also be buildings with diagonal / triangled base area?

    •   Ubi-Thorlof May 29, 2025

There won’t be “triangle buildings”, but with ornaments and the flexible groundplates you can quite nicely fill these smaller gaps between streets.
For farming villages or the outskirts of your towns, you can also use farmfields to fill any smaller areas between buildings.

  13. m marcel_1223 May 21, 2025

    Amazing Work!
It is good to see that the core ideas that were so successful have been taken from Anno 1800 and expended upon.
I would really love for you to talk a little about the new items and some possibility for new changes here. I love the idea of island wide items. It was a pain looking for 100x Gerhard Fuchs, Bruno and legendary items 🙂

Also hoping to hear a lot more about the size of buildings in the new game. It appears that a lot of buildings are very large, making it very obvious that we must decide on different pathways.

Furthermore I am hoping on some more comments on attribues, Will difficulty level adjust these in any way? How is difficulty level decided? Is it mainly income and island size related?

  14. M Monossus May 21, 2025

    •   Ubi-Thorlof May 29, 2025

Buongiorno Monossus! Thank you for your kind comment.
We have so much more to show you and are looking forward to talking about topics like military, the campaign, the lategame as well as the province of Albion in the coming months – here on the Anno Union as well as in Twitch streams.

  15. I IvanBright357 May 21, 2025

Greetings. Is it known which languages will be available in the game? Will there be voice acting or text in Latin? In my opinion, it will be atmospheric.

    •   Ubi-Thorlof May 29, 2025

We’ll soon talk about the supported languages for Anno 117: Pax Romana but on one point I’ll have to disappoint: we’re not planning to localize the game into Latin.

  16. j jayhome831103 May 21, 2025

    •   Ubi-Thorlof May 29, 2025

Greetings, jayhome! We can’t wait to have you and so many others play the game for the first time and tell us all about your experiences!

  17. N NativeMisu May 20, 2025

    Anno Team,

This looks absolutely amazing and so excited for the games release. Thank you so much for all your hard work!!

Hello, how are you? I ask you to please look carefully at the issue of adding subtitles in Brazilian Portuguese. Our gaming community is quite large. On PC, we have a legion of fans who translated the anno 1800 with mods. But on consoles, we end up suffering a little. Reservations and wishlists don’t always come from Brazil, and this can confuse you. I myself only have an American account and I live in Brazil because, back when the PS3 was around, it was only possible to create an account in the USA. So please, add subtitles in Brazilian Portuguese. Thank you in advance for your attention and keep up the perfect work in this anno 117, which has everything to be the best anno of all.

Winter is coming. And boy is it going to be good!

  20. c cero95 May 19, 2025

This looks awesomeeee and is incredible. Winter just can’t get here soon enough.

This might be one of the rare few games that i’ll pre-order or buy on day 1.

Soon I’m planning to upgrade my PC, and GPU 50 series is little bit out of my budget at the moment, so any news about system requirements ? I wouldn’t like to do the upgrade now and find out i can’t run this masterpiece.

  21. b biwesty May 19, 2025

It looks incredible. I’m hoping for a 2h dev stream to explain the decision to have circle/radii around the service buildings and not have it follow the streets anymore. Similar to roads, its just the perfect geek/nerd topic we all crave. Give it to me. Please.

  22. B BreVDD May 19, 2025

Looks awesome, winter can’t get here soon enough

  23. c cxlbxn May 19, 2025

I want to commend and thank everyone at Ubisoft Mainz that’s currently working on Anno. It is clear that you all have put so much care and thought into the game.

It’s awesome to see that you invited so many YouTubers and I hope that this gets this game in front of as many people as possible so that we can have plenty of quality of life updates as well as content for many years 🙂

  24. J Jaron-de-Clarck May 19, 2025

  25. C Commander_Jack May 19, 2025

Looks excellent! Really looking forward to trying it!

  26. R RayoOyar May 19, 2025

This looks incredible, well done well done well done. Diagonal roads look gorgeous, religion sounds super fun, UI looks solid, and I’m excited to hear more about the Discovery Tree. And best of all, an entire new chapter of LAND COMBAT DISCOURSE YAY

Can I just ask… does Winter 2025 narrow us down to just 21 Dec – 31 Dec? Or do you have a slightly wider definition of Winter 😛
