Amazing trailer — the game looks fantastic!
What I personally miss the most in Anno 117 is a deeper system of internal politics. Something at least loosely inspired by Rome II: Total War would add a lot of strategic depth.
In short, alongside the existing tabs like technology, religion, diplomacy, and trade, there could be an additional tab called “Politics.” This section would give us an overview of the Senate’s composition, divided into factions representing Rome’s most powerful and influential families.
Gaining the support of specific senatorial factions could unlock or enable mechanics such as:
Passing laws that provide bonuses or penalties to various attributes.
For example, a particular agricultural reform could grant +X% to production and +X% to the population growth of freedmen and plebeians, but at the cost of reduced happiness and income from equites and patricians.
Appointing consuls, praetors, aediles, etc. from among available characters.
(The current office system feels very simplified and not particularly engaging.)
Appointing officials aligned with certain political factions would increase your influence in the Senate and help push beneficial laws through.
Of course, adding such a “Politics” system would require significant adjustments to technologies and diplomacy to keep everything coherent.
I also think the current Tier 4 — Patricians is quite underwhelming and doesn’t really reward the player. Aside from unlocking certain buildings, having a large patrician population — and upgrading their residences further — doesn’t serve much purpose. In practice, plebeians and freedmen are far more important, which feels counterintuitive.
In my opinion, this tier needs improvements and a stronger sense of progression. Upgrading homes to the highest tier should feel meaningful.
Perhaps instead of recruiting specialists in AI-controlled ports, high‑ranking patrician specialists could be recruited in special villas? The larger your patrician population, the more prominent families appear, increasing the number of available villas.
I like the challence 🙂
I have so more ideas for the upcoming time:
English:
The changes, people work on the fields is very helpful to fulfill the experience in Anno 117.
Ultimately, you could add a cycle to farming fields (but I could understand the critic that it would fall out of the typical Anno 177 focus).
Besides this, I have some more ideas:
-A new region could be China because the Romans traded a lot with the Han-Chinese.
-Additionally, new technology would underline the technological advance Rome had. For example: water pumps could move water vertically (just like in Domus Augustana
-How would it be to have latrines as big as the bathhouse in Latium? Or to manage the seewage through tunnels that have to end in a river modul?
-In general, there could be a DLC that adds new levels to the houses because in Ancient Rome it was ususal to have even more layers (streets were nearly whole covered in shadows in some districs of Ancient Rome).
Last but not least, it‘s a pite the are no fitting streets in Albion which give Prestige.
And more ornaments like a lighttower or marketplaces on the quays…
Flags and canals through the city.
Perhaps you could develop a new light source with mirrors that we can align to very important buildings in our city (similar to headlights [even they didn‘t exist in Ancient Rome except the Lightfire from Alexandria].
Thank you for your attention and let me know (community or devs) what you think of my ideas. ^^
The Hippodrome looks amazing!! Great job guys, looking forward to it! :))
Thank you, Hannover8!
