Modding in Anno 117: Pax Romana
This page is dedicated to everything modding-related for Anno 117: Pax Romana
Find below a collection of useful links and information, including where to get and how to install mods.
Q: Where can I find mods for Anno 117: Pax Romana?
There are probably two main places to look for mods:
Firstly, there’s mod.io who we again partnered with: https://mod.io/g/anno-117-pax-romana
Secondly, there is Nexus: https://www.nexusmods.com/games/anno117paxromana
Q: How do I install mods for Anno 117: Pax Romana?
- Download your mods at e.g. https://mod.io/g/anno-117-pax-romana
- Extract them into your mods/ folder
- Either <user documents>/Anno 117 – Pax Romana/mods/ or <installation dir>/mods/
- Mods are activated by default. To deactivate (or activate) mods, open the following file and add a # in front of mods you want to DEACTIVATE
- <user documents>/Anno 117 – Pax Romana/mods/active-profile.txt
Q: There are four “ubi” mods in the folder that I didn’t install!
Indeed, the game is shipped with four example mods by us which are deactivated by default. Feel free to use them in your games and/or use them as a basis for your own mods, if you like.
Q: How do I uninstall mods?
Mods need to be deleted manually to remove them from the game.
Additionally, you can temporarily deactivate a mod (see above) without removing it entirely from your PC.
Q: Is it possible to use mods in multiplayer matches?
It is possible to use user generated content in multiplayer but only if all players are using the exact same mods (and the same version of them).
Q: I want to talk to other modders and/or create a mod myself!
A good place for discussing anything related to mods is the community-managed modding Discord server you can join via this link: https://discord.gg/rJA6Jm5
Also, have a look at the documentation created by our colleague Jakob here: https://jakobharder.github.io/anno-mod-loader/
Q: Are you planning to integrate a mod browser into the game?
Yes, we are planning to extend our modding support for Anno 117: Pax Romana by adding the mod.io mod browser directly into the game, and provide additional functionalities to enable/disable mods for specifics savegames directly in-game.
This is planned for November 2026.
Things to keep in mind when using mods
Mods are created by other players and not by the Anno development team. This means we cannot guarantee that these mods are functioning correctly and aren’t causing issues or bugs.
Also be aware that not all mods are compatible with each other, and some mods might require additional mods or tools to function. Usually, the mod creators put this kind of information in the description of their project.
Q: My game is crashing after enabling mods, what do I do?
One or more of the mods you’re using might be outdated or there might be a conflict between different mods. The solution can be a bit time-consuming, but if you can’t pinpoint it immediately by, for example, checking the individual mod pages for their descriptions, you best keep disabling mods until you find the one that likely caused the problem.
If you disable recently added mods make sure to check with a new save, or with an existing save from before issues occurred.
Q: I’ve encountered bugs or progression blockers while using mods, what do I do?
Similar to above, one or more of the mods you’re using might be outdated or there might be a conflict between different mods. Disabling and enabling mods one by one to find the culprit usually is the best strategy. Make sure to compare the list of mods with the exact nature of the issue you’re facing; for example, if the Vineyard disappeared from the construction menu and you have a mod that changes something about Vineyards, this would be a good point to start.
