Union Update: Looking at our next game update

In today’s Union Update, we will be looking at the release notes of our second Game Update for Anno 1800, scheduled for next week; this essentially means you are getting two updates for the (nonexistent) price of one. Just what would Leonard von Malching think about our deal making skills?

Release Notes for Game Update 02 ( planned for May 15, 2019)

Update 02 will include several bug fixes, improvements to the game’s stability as well as balancing updates for Influence and some of our ships. We will continue to improve the game based on community feedback with future updates, including further balancing and quality-of-life improvements.

One focal point for this update was the Influence system and the rate at which players can gain influence points to spend. We have also received a lot of feedback on Royal Taxes, but rather than simply rebalancing some numbers we are looking at a rework of the system in a future update.

Finally, we are happy to say that Madame Kahina seems to have found a new, more reliable supplier for European fertility items, so make sure to check out her Emporium’s stock.

Balancing Changes

Influence
With the newest changes, players will have an easier time acquiring influence from population as well as from investors. Our goal is that player are able to embrace their own playstyle more freely, which could be hard for players who were heavily engaged in war or complex trade route networks in the earlier stages of the end game of Anno 1800. We also changed the Influence gain population soft-cap from 14.000 to 16.000 citizens.

Finally, we tackled some influence perks that players felt were not rewarding enough considering the influence investment required. As it is our goal to reward the commitment to a certain playstyle, we buffed the overall benefit gains from influence specializations.

Influence Rebalancing:

 – Influence gained from population increased from +10 to +15 per increase

 – Influence gained from investors increased from +1 to +2 per house

 – Exponential scaling for influence from population kicks in later, at 16.000 Global Population instead of 14.000

Influence Bonus Improvements:

 – Propaganda category: Newspaper Effectiveness boosted from 5%/10%/15% to 7%/15%/25%

 – Trade category: Movement Speed boosted from 5%/10%/15% to 7%/15%/25%

 – Military category: Attack Speed boosted from 5%/10%/15% to 7%/15%/25%

 – Optimization category: Maintenance Cost boosted from 1%/2%/3% to 3%/6%/10%

 – Culture category: Attractiveness boosted from 5%/10%/15% to 10%/20%/35%

Changes to naval combat and ship diseases
We are happy to see that many players are engaging with the naval combat of Anno 1800 and will continue to improve the system based on community feedback. With Update 02, we wanted to focus on the passive defensive stance, which was not working as intended as well as an overall balancing pass on our ships. Our goal has always been to strive for a balance where both sail and steam-powered ships have their place and uses in the game, but we may have fallen a bit short when it comes to making steam ships a viable and attractive option in the late game. With these changes, we hope that we are putting more of the “dreading nought” into our battlecruisers.

We also re-balanced the illness on ships, so pandemics spreading through a network of trade routes should be less likely now, as the overall timer for the spread chance to trigger was raised significantly.

Rework of the “Passive Defense” ship stance

 – Renamed to “Hold Position”

 – Ships using this stance do not move to attack a target

Steamship balance

– Battle Cruiser hit points increased from 5000 to 6000

– Battle Cruiser Damage per shot increased from 245 to 275

– Battle Cruiser Upkeep Cost lowered from 1000 to 850

– Monitor hit points increased from 2500 to 3000

– Monitor Upkeep Cost lowered from 600 to 300

– Collier hit points from increased from 3500 to 4000

Illness on ships

– Ship disease spread chance was 1% every 10 seconds; spread chance now is 1% every 30 seconds

– Ship disease duration was 15 minutes, and has now been lowered to 10 minutes

Changes to Madame Kahina’s item pool

Now, 20% of items offered at Madame Kahina’s harbor consist of  European fertilities, with rarities (uncommon, rare and epic) depending on player progress.

Improvements to game stability
With Update 02, we improved the overall stability of the Anno 1800 game client as well as fixed specific issues, which could cause the game to crash.

– Fixed an instance where toggling the Victory Conditions could crash the game when starting a new game

– Fixed issues which could lead to crashes If the game was running under DirectX 12

– Fixed an instance which could lead to crashes during campaign gameplay

– Fixed an instance which could lead to a crash while upgrading residential buildings

– Fixed several rare instances that caused general client instability

Fixed an issue which could prevent players from receiving  further quests or character notifications
We have fixed an issue that could prevent players from accepting any new quests or interacting with other characters in the game world, which blocked them from progressing in the campaign or with their sandbox quests.

Fixed some issues causing the railway system to stop working properly.
The issue could cause trains to ignore the Oil refinery when the internal storage of the Oil Harbor was at max capacity, which could happen when players had a more complex network of different refineries connected to the harbor.

Fixed an issue where happiness count would instantly drop
when building a commuter harbor.
This issue could create a significant drop in residential happiness as soon as the commuter harbor was constructed.

Various gameplay fixes

– Fixed an issue that prevented the achievement “What’s that smell?” from unlocking

– Fixed a rare issue where the player could get locked out of expedition events

– Fixed an issue where losing an island with Trade Unions would not refund the influence spent on those unions

Fixed graphical issue in top-secret, nonexistent first-person mode

Various fixes and visual improvements to the First-Person Mode Easter Egg. Which totally does not exist. Enjoy the view!

Fixed a variety of UI issues.

– Fixed the button positioning on “Desync Detected” screen

– Fixed an issue where the button of “Father’s Diary” would shift positions at some screen resolutions

– Fixed an issue where “Unmute All” text shifted position on the multiplayer chat settings window

– Fixed an issue where City Incidents buildings would interchange their object menus

– Improved the info tips for fertility items, as they were unclear on what they could be used on

Hi, I have a bug to report.

After building a Court for queen’s trial I had quest marked as complete, but still no new quest for further plot after the new patch released on May 15th. Please fix this bug as soon as possible. Thanks.

I am happy about the steamships changes, they really felt underwhelming (besides the cargo ship which I will be using for all trade routes).

However, I am worried about influence changes. While I think it was a good idea to give players a bit more freedom, players who seek challenge won’t like this update. I would strongly recommend scaling influence gain with difficulty, just like we can choose how much income we want to get. Such a solution would make everyone happy: those who want freedom will pick an option to get lot of influence points; those who want to be challenged will choose being severely limited by influence. In my opinion it would be an ultimate solution to all players concerns.

With current changes, I also feel like you should make the influence gain from investors dependent on residences occupancy. Investor residence would always give us 1 point but full investor residences would give us 2 points.

I also hope for more bug fixes as unfortunately there are quite a few bugs. While bugs that I usually encounter aren’t very severe, I know there are many that cause frustration for many players out there.

How is it possible we’re this far in and there’s still no way to set a reserve on items for trade routes?

I hope it includes a fix for that thousand-times reported ‘osdfodosfop’ button…

Can the blue print mode have all the buildings of all the tiers? To design the whole city before having the last tier ready.I’m always moving houses to fit the buildings of higher tiers (which is nice and fun) but that would be a nice feature I think.

Hi, nice to see the game getting updates.

Will the patch include “Emergency Evacuation” mission fix? I got stuck with ships in the bottom-right corner of the map and they don’t move.

Other people also got stuck with this.

I could just rollback to some autosave, but I did not rush campaign missions, which means that I would need to lose like 20 hours of gameplay…

If this patch would fix the issue and ships just would sail to La Isla instead of being stuck in the bottom-right corner of the map it would be amazing.

    Cheers.

I would like to see changes to the World’s Fair. The status indicator suggests to me that I’m earning rewards from each box I open, but I only earn rewards from the top box. This is frustrating, as I would need to pull all the resources OFF the island to net boxes in the middle that the UI shows I’ve earned.

A Proposition; set the challenge to three boxes for low tier, four for mid, and five to advanced. As we earn each box, we get a reward from each box. Low tier earns three rewards at full, while high tier earns five rewards at full. But a player isn’t always earning a few canals on ornaments, rather getting a mix from each set they met.

Why isn’t it possible to have an option for the difficulty setting in the sandbox mode with the influence points? For example normal +20 for a level, advanced +15 and expert +10?
In my opinion, the game might become to easy for some people with the coming update. This is also a problem. The rebalance is of course necessary.

Can someone explain what this is please:
“Influence gain population soft-cap from 14.000 to 16.000”

Will this be retroactive (be applied to existing games):
“Influence gained from population increased from +10 to +15 per increase”

What is a Collier? It is mentioned with ships but i can’t find any reference to it

Love the game and the patch is looking great, but can you put the white plaza tiles back in please! And a reserve function for items in your warehouse would be handy

    Hey everyone,
thanks for the upcoming patch, really looking forward!
Is there any way we could get the normal plaza decoration tile back? I can’t find it anywhere in the release version while it was in all the tests and the beta.
    Cheers!

Please update the “known issues” list as well on the forums. Also no update on campaign stalling bug (prosperity for all quest) is a bit dissapointing.

Is it planned to add ability to set minimum amount of goods in werehouse that your trade ships leave there no matter what as it was possible to do in ANNO 2070?

I can’t thank you enough ANNO Team! I’ve also experienced these same issues with the Resident Quests and also with City Intuitions HUDs being glitchy. I’ve also been collecting feedback to submit to show. But it seems that is no longer necessary. As the issues are already known and going to be resolved. I am glad that you guys are way ahead of us and have worked on fixes already to these problems. I really appreciate the commitment of the team to keep ANNO optimized. They never let us down. Thank you again so much! Great game, great content, great team!

I really like the balancing improvements with the influence system. This was really needed. I still felt constrained at launch on the influence system. Adding a extra 5 influence for every population level is a great idea. And increasing the % values for each global buff is also a needed improvement. And I strongly agree with this. I also felt like those where a little too small. For example, Optimization being 1%, 2%, 3% made it feel not worth to invest in that unless you have a lot of expensive production chains. As that is where the effect would be most helpful at.

Another fix I really praise is that Passive Defense for ships. Thank god that is going to be fixed! It is so annoying and frustrating to have that active. It only proved helpful when someone was attacking my harbor. My ships would go after the enemy and take them down automatically. But when I am attacking it is a pain, because the ships go where I don’t want them to go. Which ruins the battle plan, which then sucks. Thank you so much for working on that.

Really looking forwards to the next patch. If I still run into any issues after the patch. I will be sure to collect feedback to submit. Is there a place or way to share feedback and screenshots? I am unsure if you can share screenshots on the forums as attachments? Or if there is a email for BlueByte that I can submit reports to and helpful screenshots? I’d like to know please if any of the team members can provide me with an answer. Thank you.

Could you tell us where do the Uplay challenges have to be completed for them to trigger?

I completed the Annoholic achievment in a sandbox game, I got the achievment, but didn’t got the Uplay challenge unlocked. Why?

Do I have to do that challenge in the campaign or what? It’s been a week since I did it, and Uplay still hasn’t updated it.

And what about the Prosperity for All bug? A bug with quest progression preventing many players from processing past 84% in the campaign?

Overall good changes and fixes, the passive stance for ships was quite frustrating glad to hear that will be fixed, also the changes to the battle cruiser mean that it can solo a harbor so no more expanding without any canon positions :P.

So currently you get +1 influence, when you have 40 investors in a house at least,
could you make it that we get the first point earlier at 20-30 investors and the second one at 40? Or is it too complicated?

  25. Barracuda1955 Barracuda1955

Great work and glad to hear some of these improvements. Really a fun game and enjoying it very much. Have a future request however I would like to see. How about some more Monuments?
