To give you a bit insight in what we are currently looking at: Right now, we are sitting together with the team and talk through various feedback points raised by the community. For the next balancing update, we have our eye on topic such as influence, royal taxes, ship balance and ship AI behavior. As soon as we know what we exactly going to do in the next patch, we will keep you updated here in the Anno Union.
Union Community Spotlights
Our numbers clearly show that most of you just having a jolly good time playing the game right now. We are busy on various ends; some of the team took a small break while the rest of us work on the various elements of our post-launch plans, such as patch updates and upcoming content.
For that, we will continue to use the Anno Union to give you updates about the development of the game but after the release of Anno 1800, the focus will shift a bit more towards community creations and spotlights and the cadency of blogs might vary. That does not mean that we won’t continue to bring you gamedev blogs and livestreams covering upcoming content though!

Let’s start today with just some of the content from Anno fans out there.

First spotlights goes to the Anno 1800 Fandom Wiki

The perfect place to get really deep into all the nifty details of Anno 1800 or even to share your knowledge with other fans. The Anno 1800 fan wiki is just a great and continuously growing collection of articles about the content of the game (perfect for browsing through on your second screen while playing the game).

Nutritional habits of the 19. Century by Injustpotato
Reddit user Injustpotato calculated tons of very elaborate data and used probably a few bottles of wine (just for measurement) to create this scientifically proven and highly sophisticated chart about the sometimes questionable consumption rate of your Anno 1800 residents.
I mean we are called Annoholics after all, right?

The Anno 1800 consumption calculator by Schwubbe
And to stay in-topic, community member Schwubbe demonstrated some serious engineering skills (and probably 1.1kg Coffee/min) to put together his Anno 1800 consumption calculator. It is great to see for us how many users are already working on various tools for the game, do you have some favorites you want to share with us in the comments?

Please stay calm, nothing to see here! By Dr. Rodney McKay
Everything is fine, nothing to worry about, just stay calm and enjoy the beauty of Anno 1800’s Konami Code 😀

And to give credit where credit is due: Todays Union Update header picture highlight – Annoholic FairZone on Twitter!

That was it for today, we will return with future Union Updates and continue to spotlight your creations. So if you created something cool, if it is a tool, a whole fan project or just a beautiful screenshot, let us know in the comments blog.

In the time being, please continue to share your feedback and creations out there and let us know what you would like to see in the Anno Union during the post-launch season of Anno 1800.

Union Ship Design Contest

You have an artistic eye and can’t wait to give the imperial pride a new coat of paint? That one great idea for a design haunts you seemingly forever? Your pencil is ready to bring us a cool story revolving around an infamous ship or you just want to get crazy with a design paper?

The Anno Union island contest has shown that the Union is a creative force to reckon with and this time, we want you to design your own model variation of the Imperial Pride.
To utilize all talent from our communities, we allow you to use any medium you like to shape and illustrate your idea: You want to overpaint our concept art or create your own true piece of art, go for it! How about going all in with a 19th century style blueprint, a cool  story about the vessels history or something which feels like an description right out of an RPG sourcebook, including fictional stats and skills?

Use any medium you like to pitch your idea, here are some things to keep in mind:
– As the design will be implemented as a model variant of the Imperial Pride, your submission needs to be based on the community vote winning cruiser.
– Even though the Imperial Pride is a steam cruiser with medium defensive capabilities, you can decide if your variant is a fierce battleship, true pack mule or something entirely different.
– While we like you to go all in with your cool ideas, keep in mind we are still talking about a ship design, which should fit into the setting and to Anno’s gameplay.
– If you want to work with loose stats or special skills, you can just use definitions like “HP – Medium / DMG – High / MANOUVERABLILTY – Weak etc.” or just work with some sort of a points system.
– Surprise us!
And here the “Imperial Pride” in all her glory! Just click to get concept art in high resolution.

The deadline for submissions to the Ship Design Contest is Monday 6th of August.

Just post your entry in the dedicated contest topic in our Anno 1800 Ubisoft forum:
International Ship Design thread

After the contest has ended, our team will sit together and browse through the ideas from our Union hobby designers. We will then decide on which submission will get the full development treatment and makes it as a model variant into the game. There also might be a scenario where two submissions complement each other so greatly that we make use of both for the variant.

Additionally, we will make sure that the coolest submissions will get a true community spotlight on our Anno Union and Anno 1800 channels.
Have fun and good luck!

1701 Anniversary: Share your memories!

The Anno series first bustled onto gamer’s screens nearly two decades ago, and next week marks the anniversary for one of the biggest milestones in the history of the Anno series.

The release of Anno 1701 in the year 2006 was a big step for the series, an evolution from the first two 2D isometric titles into the third dimension of gaming. It is also a very special game for us here at Ubisoft Blue Byte Mainz, as it was the first time that we (under our original name Related Designs) got our hands on the steering wheel of this storied franchise.

Many of those developers are still a part of the team today and they incorporate their experiences into the development of the upcoming Anno 1800. We love to reminisce in memories about the development of the older games and what they have contributed to the series as a whole.
And with these trips down memory lane, we remembered that many of you guys where already a part of our community  back then while newer fans might have also interesting experiences when going back to try out one of the older Anno games.

And here comes the call to action:
Share your Anno 1701 memories, anecdotes or creations such as videos, screenshots or fan art!

What was the first things you did or remembered when starting to play Anno 1701? How about some funny or beloved memories you connect with the first Anno in 3D and why is Anno 1701 still an important game for you as a fan of the series?
We hope that you have plenty of comments or creations to share with the union. You can also post videos, screenshots, stories and other fan art in our Ubisoft fan creation topic:  http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1760804-Moving-Pictures-We-are-looking-for-Fanvideos-and-streams!

The best entries will get their own spotlight during next week’s Anno 1701 anniversary celebrations. We are curious and excited and wish you all a great weekend!
